Officials say Rehoboth Beach violated its wastewater discharge permit last month
State environmental officials have concluded that Rehoboth Beach violated its wastewater discharge permit last month.
The News Journal of Wilmington (http://delonline.us/2aJFkuh ) reports that a citizen photographed dark brown discharge coming from the Rehoboth Beach sewer plant outfall in July. The paper says the city described what happened as a “biological upset resulting in a malfunction of one of the two clarifiers at the plant.” City officials say the upset was brief.
State officials found that bacteria was accumulating on clarifiers at the treatment plant because small mesh screens designed to keep it out weren’t in service. City officials were given 30 days to prepare a report on the incident and come up with a plan to prevent future problems. City officials say that adjustments were made to correct the problem.
