Ocean City jeep week presents jeeps from around the world

Jeep week is in full effect in Ocean City and 47 ABC was right in the heart of it all. The OC’s convention center held 1300 jeeps and vendors from all over the country.
“Our organization is Jankel,” said Mike Gardner. “We’re from Duncan, South Carolina and I mean, I’ve been to Ocean City before but this is Jankel’s first year showing our stuff off here in Ocean City.”
Gardner tells us his 1945 CJ2A was the first jeep built for civilians, right after WW2.
The CJ2A’s gas tank is located under the driver seat and mike tells us even though hard right turns cause gas leaks he still loves driving it. And Brad Hoffman, the event organizer, has that same jeep appreciation.
“This is a great time of year for us. It’s really a great way for the off roading enthusiasts and jeep folks to all get together,” said Brad. “They call themselves the jeeple people.”
“We actually pull our jeep and jeeps we’ve had in the past behind our motor home and travel different areas – heading to Tennessee in 2 weeks,” said Celesta Funk. “My husband and I love jeeps. They’ve actually been a big part of our entire families lives.”
Along with an array of amazing jeeps there were vendors that supplied sound installation, grill inserts, shocks, rim packages and apparel.
The event also had a section displaying the evolution of jeep models and some history. The original Jeep went into production in 1941 and was specifically build for military use. Because of that Jeeps are arguably the oldest four-wheel drive mass production vehicles. Now, the Jeep models have transformed dramatically since the first one rolled off the production line in world war two.
Down at Ocean City’s jeep week, they have a display to prove just how much the jeep has evolved over time. To date , the Jeep brand of vehicles has become one of the most recognized brands in the world.
Jeep week wraps up Sunday August 28th.
