Md. legislators open to talks about new boating regulations

With recent tragedy striking a New Jersey family vacationing in Ocean City this week, local legislators say public safety remains at the top of their list of priorities.
Officials say a 9-year-old boy was killed Wednesday after he fell off a rented boat and was struck by its propeller.
47ABC caught up with District 38-C Delegate Mary Beth Carozza on Friday.
According to Delegate Carozza, what the community needs to do now is “take a step back” and find out everything that happened before proposing changes to regulations or legislation.
“I believe it’s a little bit too soon to assume it requires legislation but it may and I think we may need to be open to that,” she says. “But let’s first take a look at the accident, all the factors involved and talk to the experts and see what they would recommend.”
47ABC also spoke to officials on how to stay safe on the waters to possibly prevent another tragedy like this. Click here for that story.
