Hurricane Earl Update

After a slow start to the hurricane season, a category 1 hurricane has developed in the Caribbean. Hurricane Earl is expected to make landfall across Central America later tonight and into early Thursday morning. Areas that are under a hurricane warning include Puerto Costa Maya, Mexico, and the Belize/Guatemala border.

Expected within this storm system is damaging wind, rain, and storm surge. Earl has sustained winds of 75 mph with stronger gusts. 8-12 inches of rain are expected to fall throughout the duration of the hurricane, and may lead to dangerous mudslides and flash flooding. Water along the coasts is predicted to rise 4-6 feet above normal high tide along the immediate Brazilian Coast and Yucatan Peninsula. It is warned that Earl still has the potential to strengthen, and any updates can be found at the National Hurricane Center link below.
