Dover Police announce Citizen’s Police Academy

Police in Dover have announced that they will be hosting a Citizen’s Police Academy starting in September.
The Citizen Police Academy is a program that will meet once a week, on Monday evenings, from 6-9 PM from September 12- November 7. This program is designed to give members of the Dover community more knowledge about their police department.
Officials say that they aim to accomplish three goals:
- To educate community members in Dover Police Department procedures and the pressures associated within law enforcement
- To allow the citizens of Dover to meet the men and women who serve them
- To provide Dover Police Department officers the opportunity to meet and hear from the citizens they serve.
Citizen Police Academy members are given a realistic view of the Department, and presentations consist of lectures, demonstrations, videos, computer presentations, and “hands on” participation. Each participant will even be given the opportunity to ride with an officer for one shift.
You can get an application for the Citizen Police Academy at the Dover Police Department or you can download it online, here.
Media representatives are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Officials say that this program will not only allow citizens of Dover to become more educated on Dover Police Department procedure, but also to the pressures that come with law enforcement. There is no cost to attend this program, and applications must be submitted by September 1.
