Dewey Beach taking a bite out of breast cancer

knows someone who has been effected by the disease and august is a special breast cancer awareness month for dewey beach residents. 47 abc’s ashonti ford was in dewey beach today where they go pink every fall for the cause. 20:38:24when i was 50 and went for my yearly mamogram – i had lump 20:38:30 <butt 20:38:01 i was always the health nut that was at the gym everyday 20:38:05 track roya – like many others – had no warning. at the age of 45 she was diagnosed with breast cancer.but she says with the help of her friends and family during her lumpectemy and radiation she got through it and is now a 5 year survivor. roya tells 47 abc that she comes to these events to give back to the cause and to tell other women that have breast cancer to stay positive and think about lifer after treatment. <20:21:35 we’re very spoiled in dewey we have such great people 20:21:39 that it’s fun to use this popular place to do fun things for the community 20:21:45 track steve is the owner of starboard restaruant which has been closely tied to breast cancer awareness events for the past decade.steve tells 47 abc that dewey beach goes pink every year at this time – and all the money raised goes toward the local delaware breast cancer coalition-in support of the cause that effects so many people. 20:31:53 they are definitely taking a big bite out of breast cancer here at the starboard restaurant in dewey beach where they say – no matter if you’re 1 or 70 – you’re still a kid 20:32:03 20:22:20 nine years ago we created ts team called dash for the cure 20:22:24 about living your dash to the fullest 20:22:26 track susy casey – founder of “teamash” – and that dash she’s referring to is found on your tombstone between the year you were born and the year you die. casey tells 47 abc that she has watched a lot of her friends die of breast cancer and her mission – while raising money to find a cure – is to help women and their families continue to enjoy life while living. 20:22:30 we did the walk for breast cancer and we needed some fundraising .. 20:22:38 i found the big wheel biker gang and i was like this is really interesting and said um how can we tweak it to fit our needs 20:22:46 track kids and adults decorated mini wheel bikes that all went up for auction – but not before riding them around a 5 step obstacle course – winner claiming a prize. there were also drag races throughout the event and “cure for cancer” apparel. folks could donate anything from one to one thousand dollars. last year team dash made over five thousand dollars at their event and they hope to make more this year. all proceeds from the event are donated to team “dash for the cure” and to dewey goes pink which benefits the delaware breast cancer coalition. ashonti ford – 47 a-b-c. and there is still plenty of time to donate towards the cause. dewey beach will
