Dewey beach resident helps police with surveillance

Dewey beach resident, Rob Jones, has been helping police catch crimes ever since he put in a surveillance camera outside his house five years ago. Within the past two weeks his security footage has helped assist police with information for two major car accidents along Coastal Highway in Dewey.

One accident happened early Thursday at around 1 a.m. His camera caught a hit and run. A dark colored SUV was driving northbound on Coastal Highway. The car collided into the rear end of a moped–the two people on the moped were then ejected.

The SUV then ran over the moped and kept driving never returning to the scene of the accident. Police are hoping Jones’ footage can help them identify the hit and run driver.

His video was able to assist police in court for prosecuting the driver crashing into Eds chicken and crab restaurant two weeks ago.

Jones tells 47 ABC, “I put them in originally a couple years ago just cause I had a lot of problems with people peeing in my yard–just coming in trying to break into your car, trespassing and all that and it turns out it’s catching a lot more than that.”
