Delaware seeks solution to school violence

A special committee in Delaware will look to come up with strategies to curb the state’s school violence problems.
Sen. Robert Marshall authored legislation to form the committee following the killings of 16-year-old Amy Inita Joyner Francis and 15-year-old Brandon Wingo earlier this year.
Members of the wide ranging 23 person group include lawmakers, educators and child development experts.
Marshall said Tuesday at a press conference he hopes to have recommendations ready for the governor and the general assembly by mid-October.
“I’m hoping the Markell administration can look at our recommendations, the incoming governor in January to look at those recommendations and if some have a policy change that’s significant or a dollar amount that can be considered as we move forward,” Marshall said.
Meetings will be held at the Grass Dale State Conference Center in Delaware City.
They’re open to the public with the first one happening Wednesday Aug. 10 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
