Car crashes into Dewey Beach restaurant causing severe fire

Fire officials in Delaware say, they are investigating a fire in Dewey Beach after a car crashed into a local restaurant.

According to the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office, the blaze occurred at Ed’s Chicken and Crabs, located at Coastal Highway and Swede Street, at about 2:00 AM Tuesday. Fire fighters reportedly arrived on scene to find heavy fire showing from the building. The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, was reportedly assisted by Lewes, Indian River, and Bethany Beach, companies to extinguished the blaze. Investigators say, the fire occurred as a result of a car crashing into the building.

No injuries were reported and authorities say the building was not occupied at the time of the fire.

Fire officials estimate the damages at $75,000.
