Bridgeville man reportedly arrested for possession of heroin

Tyrie Williams, 24, of Bridgeville

The Delaware State Police say they have arrested a Bridgeville man for heroin possession after a traffic stop on Sunday.

Around 7:30 AM, officials say that a trooper on patrol of Coastal Highway saw a dark Mercedes-Benz E32 driving very fast and not using signals to switch lanes. The trooper reportedly conducted a traffic stop, in the parking lot of an IHOP on Bayside Outlet Drive, where the driver was identified as Tyrie Williams, 24, of Bridgeville.

The trooper apparently found out that Williams’ license had been suspended, and he could smell marijuana coming from the car. According to the report, Williams was driving with his six-month-old son, and another man.

Officials say that the men were asked to get out of the car, and a search was then conducted. The trooper reportedly found a bag behind the driver’s side floorboard, just in front of the seat whee the six-month-old was sitting.

This bag apparently contained a plastic jar, normally used for baby formula, with 507 bags of heroin, or 7.605 grams, as well as a glass jar with 34 grams of marijuana.

According to the report, Williams was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop7, where he was charged with possession of heroin, possession with intent to deliver heroin, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended or revoked, and various other traffic related offenses.

Officials say he was arraigned at JP3, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $62,500.00 cash bond.

The 6-month-old child was reportedly uninjured, and turned over to the mother at the scene, and the other male passenger was not charged.
