Aug. 12 – Salisbury Fire Department Open House

The Salisbury Fire Department will be opening our fire station to the public for our Annual Open House in recognition of the 144th Anniversary of the Salisbury Fire Department. The open house will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Station 16 at 325 Cypress Street will be open to the public from 10am to 2pm.

“We encourage residents to get an up-close look at their neighborhood fire stations,” says Fire Chief Richard A. Hoppes with the SFD. “We are a staple in the community, and this is a good way to connect City of Salisbury and Wicomico County residents with their local firefighters/emergency medical technicians.”

At the open house, the public is invited to come out and talk with members of their fire department, meet Sparky the Fire Dog, get a Station Tour, free blood pressure checks, and observe interactive events. Activities for the kids such as face painting, moon bounce, fire prevention trailer, knocking down cones with the hose, and a dunking booth will be available during the open house. Refreshments will be provided by the Ladies Auxiliary at Station 16.

The SFD Downtown 5K Fun Run will kick off the Open House at 8am starting and ending at 325 Cypress Street.

There will be interactive events every 30 minutes from 10am to 2pm including; Hazmat Demo, Cut the Roof, Vehicle Rescue, Arson Dog Demo, Bomb Squad Demo, Rappelling Demo, Fire Extinguisher Class, and EMS Skills demonstration.

If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter or EMS member, stop by and meet with us. Members will be available to answer any questions and discuss our programs. Applications will be available at the recruitment table.

The public is encouraged to go to the Salisbury Fire Department’s website, for more information or contact the SFD at 410-548-3120.
