A Bridgeville farmer’s market creates the first drive-thru market in Delaware

On route 404 in Bridgeville, drivers may now spot something new along the highway. Evans Farms and The Frozen Farmers have teamed up to provide a convenient way for those to eat all things local. The grand opening of this new market is Thursday, after it started construction in January.

Katey Evans, the owner of Evans Farms, tells 47 ABC this business, a third generation family farm, has been apart of their family history since the 40’s.

Evans said, “We really tried to grow the small market side of the operation.”

This is not only the grand opening of the new farmer’s market, but it is also Delaware’s first drive through produce market in the state.

Evans Farms created the Frozen Farmers about four years ago. They provide homemade ice cream and sorbet with no powder or mixes to bring healthier choices to families with fresh ingredients that are grown on site.

Ruth Skala is a chairperson on Bridgeville’s economic development committee and was very supportive of this new market.

Skala said “It’s exciting for Bridgeville because we are trying to expand and (are) working hard for economic development. Every bit of growth is welcomed. We have traffic coming through, we have residents here. We’re thrilled the Evans’ family is taking this step forward.”

Evans says that the amount of support and community effort truly helped open the business. Evans tells 47 ABC that it makes her extremely proud to see the community enjoying the market the way they hoped they would.
