this afternoon. yeah and after a surprising win yesterday. their pitching staff absolutely shut down the hot bats of the cardinals, so they we’re looking to do that again today. in the series finale today at citizen’s bank park earlier this afternoon, with vince velasquez getting the start for philadephia. velasquez looking for his 9th win of the season coming into this one and he’d run into a bunch of trouble early on. top of the first bases loaded and brandon moss gets a hold of one, looking like it’d be a grandslam but watch odubel herrera track this one, all the way to the wall, get up and make the catch. great catch but the cards would get a run out of that on the sac fly. after that though, it was pretty much all st. louis, moss back up in the fourth and that one is actually over the fence. 2-0 they lead in the fourth. in the fifth, stephen piscotty drills one deep to left, that one is out. and for good measure in the 8th, jed gyorko gets out of town. four homers in this one for the cardinals as the phillies get shut out at home by a final of 9-0. orioles taking on the astros and right now, the weather is actually winning this one. the teams didnt even take the field for the 1:35 start time, instead the ga started in a delay. fans trying to stick it out they got the game started and are now back under a delay in the top of the second. big game for the o’s so check back in with us later tonight for highlights in that one. how about some olympic action, mens 4×400 last night, the us men after so much disappointment finally strike gold. lashawn merrit crosses the finish line to secure the win. also coming up golden, the us women’s basketball team after their 103-63 win over spain. thats now 6 straight olympics with the gold for those ladies. back over to ttohe track, mark centrowitz wins the first gold for the us since 1908 in the 1500 meter, family going wild for him in the crowd, what a scene. great moment for him. and last but certainly not least, the womens triathalon. no way i could do this, you start by swimming almost a mile, then you have to bike almost 25 miles, and then finish it off with a 6 mile run. american gwen jorgenson wins the gold with a time of 1:56:16. the us men’s basketball team also captures gold putting the total medal count up to 121 for the united states to lead the 2016 olympics. on to our play of the day, more from the olympics, brazil needing a penalty kick to take the gold medal and neymar doesnt disappoint. first gold medal ever for the soccer powerhouse and they do it in their own country. i dont know how rio is still standing after the parties last night, great game and a great closing to this year’s summer olympics. that’s it for sports. we will have weather just ahead- keep it right here — you’re watching 47 abc – delmarva’s trust
