Travon Miles covers sports for WMDT 47 abc

were talking sports, tray, we’re right about at the midway point in the summer olympics. yeah michelle we’re wrapping up one half of the events, the us has dominated in alot such as swimming and gymnastics, now we’re moving to some other events that are just as interesting. the us currently has 66 medals to lead the field, as we’re officially half way thru the 2016 summer olympics. day 8 was special..we’ll start it off in the pool. the greatest of all time, michael phelps competed in what he says is was his final olympic event. snatching one more gold in the 4 x 100 medley relay. american jeff henderson captured the first gold for the us in the long jump since 2004, soaring into first, jumping 27 feet, 6 inches. in the women’s 100 meter, jamaican elaine thompson beats out teammate and former champion shelly anne fraser price to win. american torie bowie takes the silver. and how can i leave this guy out, the ultimate showman, usain bolt. terrible start but able to just glide and even slows down starts jogging to the finish. bolt will try to become the first man ever to win 3 straight 100 meter gold metals tonight. bringing things back to the states now, and to the nations capital where the nats suffered a surprising loss on friday at the hands of the worst team in baseball the atlanta braves. today, the nats were trying to finish off the series with a win. and it was the return of this guy, bryce harper back after missing the last five games. and maybe his presence alone gave the team some confidence. bottom 1, ben revere laying down the bunt, anthony recker throws it to no one in particular. trea turner gonna come around to score. harper would record a rbi double in the 1st. now in the 5th with 2 runners on anthony rendon, see ya later. nats this one big by a final of 9-1. phillies also home today, placido polanco being honored before the game, former fan favorite in philly. how about a current fan favorite, freddy galvis, breaking the 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fifth, this was a back and forth game but philly took the lead here and never looked back. former oriole jimmy paredes just gets one down in front of former oriole gerrado parra in right. odubel herrera comes around to score. and a little insurance here, cesar hernandez with an infield hit, that scores another run as the phillies win 7-6. and how about today giving it up for mariano rivera. he was immortalized in yankee stadium earlier today as the club honored him with a commemorative ring and a plaque that will stand with the other yankee greats in monument park. there you see him joined by former teammates derek jeter, jorge posada and andy pettite to name a few. rivera, a lifetime yankee, retired in 2013 with the most saves in mlb history. it wasn’t about me. it was those guys there. its not all about me, but i will always thank the good lord, to make me a yankee. taking it on over to our play of the day, we’re staying on the diamond, going up north to the 6! blue jays taking on the astros and houston, you have a problem. russell martin with the great catch over the railing behind the backstop. laying out he’s completely on his back at one point, battling the sun, equipment and the cn tower glaring down there. great play. that’s it for sports. keep it right here — you’re watching 47 abc – delmarva’s trust source for news.
