3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury is back August 19
August 19th, next Friday, is 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury!
This month’s theme is Wheels, and organizers say it’s all about skate boarding, skate deck art, bicycles, roller skates and everything that makes the world go round!
To start, on North Division Street, the street will be transformed into a mini skate park, courtesy of Swirled World Skate Shop, where kids and adults of all ages can try their skills on skate board and bicycles, and get pointers from seasoned riders! It’s free of charge, but helmets are required and children under 18 must have a parent or guardian with them to sign a waiver. There will also be a sign up table to register for use of the Salisbury Skate Park, and free bike valet service courtesy of Bike-SBY. The entire area will be family friendly, and local punk rock bands will be performing on the Government Office Building Steps.
The new Downtown Salisbury Visitor Center will be hosting a ribbon cutting and grand opening event at 5:30 PM. The Visitor Center is an exciting new space where visitors and citizens can learn more about events in Downtown Salisbury, purchase cool Salisbury branded merchandise and get coupons for Downtown businesses.
The Tony Weeg Photography Studio will host the 2016 Skate Art Punk Show Auction and Sale benefiting Phase II construction of the Salisbury Skate Park. The art show will feature skate decks by 30 hand-picked artists, with submissions based on political themes. After the Skate Deck Art Show, the party continues at Headquarters Live at 8:30 with Salisbury punk rock jug band Blackfoot Revival Band, headed up by American Waste Skate co-creator Frank Porcelli, followed by two DC bands, BUST OFF and Throwdown Syndicate.
On the Plaza, artists, crafters and non-profits will fill the streets. Keep an eye out for artists offering products with an EC Strong sticker, indicating proceeds will benefit relief efforts in Downtown Ellicott City, which was devastated by a flood earlier in the month. The main stage will feature live music by local trio Beauty for Ashes. The Art Institute and Gallery’s will host the Clay Guild of the Eastern Shore’s 2016 Show & Sale, downstairs in the Gallery Building, and Robbie Johnson and other members of the Clay Guild will be on the Plaza doing pottery wheel demonstrations.
SU Art Galleries Downtown Campus, now located in the Gallery Building, will host a ukulele jam session from 6:30 – 8 PM. Instruments and instruction will be provided and no experience required, hosted by Salisbury University’s Louise Anderson.
On St. Peters Street, Salisbury Jaycees will be pouring local beer and wine selections. St. Peters Episcopal Church will host kids-scooter road races, and will transform their beautiful courtyard in the “Finish Line Grill”, complete with cooling fans, grilled burgers, hot dogs, snacks and drinks, all at family friendly prices.
