Wicomico Co. Sheriff Mike Lewis reacts to Dallas shootings

47 ABC spoke with Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis Friday, about an hour before he headed for Baltimore.
Sheriff Lewis was on his way to appear live on the Sean Hannity Show, which airs on the Fox News station at 10:00 PM Eastern time.
Lewis tells 47 ABC the show gave him a call Thursday night, and asked if he would like to respond to the recent police shootings. At this point, Sheriff Lewis says he did not know of the Dallas shootings, he thought the caller was referring to recent shootings by police in Louisiana and Minnesota.
Once he realized officers were down in Dallas, Sheriff Lewis said it was the least he could do to travel to Baltimore to appear on Hannity’s show. Hannity is an outspoken Conservative who holds a TV show weeknights, and a talk radio show in the afternoon.
47 ABC asked Sheriff Lewis for a statement on the fallen officers and recent gun violence for the local media before he headed up to Baltimore. He responded in an email:
“I am shocked and saddened by the recent ambush and assassination of five Dallas Police Officers. It is with comfort that I applaud the extraordinary courage of those officers protecting the peaceful, Constitutional demonstration focused on law enforcement shootings. Our hearts go out to those officers and civilians who were injured and murdered by this yet explained action. We will hold them and their families in our prayers.”
Sheriff Lewis also expressed his frustration with the Obama administration, saying he believes that the President does not look after law enforcement.
Five police officers were killed during a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas. That lasted for hours beginning Thursday night. At least seven other officers and two civilians were injured.
Authorities have identified the gunman as Micah Johnson, 25, of Mesquite, Tx. Police say Johnson, an ex-Army reservist, had ammunition, ballistics, and bomb-making materials inside his home which he apparently shared with his mother.
The Black Lives Matter movement has condemned the attack.
