UPDATE: Week two of Justin Corbett trial begins

Following a four-day break, the trial of Justin Corbett continued on Tuesday.
After the state rested it’s case, Justin Corbett declined to testify on his own behalf. However, a Corbett family friend, who claimed Justin had stayed with her family in 2013 after the death of Evan Dudley, took to the stand. In her testimony, she said she felt comfortable when she left her child with Corbett during his stay.
The defense also called a biomechanical engineer who specializes in injuries to the human body. He said that in a worst-case scenario, a fall down the stairs was a reasonable explanation for the injuries Dudley sustained.
During cross examination, the state made the case that a fall was not the only way Dudley could’ve been injured. To that, the engineer said his data and findings were only based off of the claims of the defense. Following the testimony, the defense resting their case.
The state then called another biomechanical engineer to the stand.She said that it was highly unlikely that the injuries Dudley suffered were a result of a fall down the stairs.
Closing arguments are expected to begin Wednesday morning at 9:30. Then the jury will begin deliberation.
