Maryland State Police say just before 8:00 PM on June 29, Troopers from the Salisbury Barrack responded to Mount Hermon Road at Sixty Foot Road, in Parsonsburg, for reports of a crash involving a car, and a bicycle. Once on scene, Police say they found that 18-year-old Jacob Schertz, was riding his bike west on Mount Hermon Road, when he was hit by a 2015 Honda Civic, driven by a juvenile female, who was also traveling west.

Investigators say Schertz was taken from the scene to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He reportedly suffered a traumatic head injury. The driver of the Civic, along with a juvenile female passenger, reportedly both refused treatment at the scene.

47 ABC learned that Schertz was an organ donor. Sources close to Schertz, who went by Jake, and his family say he thrived in wrestling while he was in high school and planned to attend the University of Maryland this year.
