UPDATE: Former Pocomoke Police Chief facing charges

New details have been released in an on-going investigation in Worcester County, Maryland.

A former police chief of Pocomoke City, as well as one of the city’s former police officers, are now facing charges. The indictment came down Tuesday. This appears to be just the latest in an ongoing scandal in Worcester County concerning accusations of racism and workplace retaliation.

47 ABC’s Emily Lampa has been following this story. Documents from the Maryland Judiciary Database shows that former Pocomoke Police Chief Kelvin Sewell, and former police lieutenant Lynell Green are looking at similar charges.

Both men are facing 2 misdemeanor counts, conspiracy to commit misconduct in office, and a charge of “misconduct in office.”

Although the indictments came down via Worcester County’s grand jury we’re told Worcester County State’s Attorney Office is not involved in this case. It appears state prosecutor, Emmit Davitt, is handling this matter.

This is important, since the State’s Attorney Beau Oglesby, the city of Pocomoke, and the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office are currently involved in a lawsuit with Sewell, Green and another former police officer Franklin Savage.

The three former Pocomoke City employees filed suit against the entities on allegations of racism and retaliation as a result of speaking out.

We reached out to Beau Oglesby’s office, who says they are not in a position to comment. We also reached out to Chief Sewell as well as his attorney in this matter, and they both declined to comment.

In terms of taking Sewell and Green into custody, we’re told by the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office that they are in the process of getting the arrest warrant, and serving it could begin Wednesday.

According to court documents both Sewell and Green are scheduled to be arraigned on August 17th. We’re still waiting to hear if that will be in Worcester County courts or elsewhere in the state. Make sure to tune in tonight for 47 ABC news at 11 for more on this story.
