UPDATE: Fmr. Pocomoke police chief & lieutenant accused of interfering with investigation

New details Wednesday about former Pocomoke police chief, Kelvin Sewell, and former Pocomoke police lieutenant, Lynell Green. Both are facing misconduct in office charges after they allegedly interfered with a car crash investigation back in November of 2014.

According to court documents obtained by 47 ABC, Sewell and Green allegedly interfered with a car crash investigation to apparently benefit a local correctional officer, Douglas Matthews. No other details have been released in this case.

Sewell and Green were indicted on Tuesday. They are looking at similar counts.
Count 1: Conspiracy to commit Misconduct in Office.
Count 2: Misconduct in office.

Although a Worcester County grand jury issued the indictment, we’re told that is strictly because the alleged crimes took place in Worcester County. Maryland State Prosecutor Emmit Davitt is handling this matter, not the Worcester County State’s Attorney. This comes as Worcester County State’s Attorney, Beau Oglesby, is currently involved in a federal lawsuit with Sewell, Green, and another former Pocomoke police officer, Franklin Savage.

In a press release sent to 47 ABC, Davitt stated, “Police officers take an oath to uphold the laws of the State without partiality or prejudice. Any disregard of that oath should never be tolerated.”

Both Sewell and Green are due in court next month to be arraigned on these charges.

According to the office of the Maryland state prosecutor, there is no set penalty for these charges. That essentially means that Sewell and Green could be facing penalties, including jail time, as long as its not “cruel and unusual”.

47 ABC reached out to both Worcester County State’s Attorney Beau Oglesby along with Kelvin Sewell and his lawyer. All declined to comment on the indictments.
