UPDATE: Farmers bank of Willards president thankful for firefighters

Lightning struck the Farmer’s Bank of Willards Thursday sparking a fire in the attic of the building.

According to Farmer’s Bank of Willards president Chris Davis because of the efforts of the Willard’s fire department, roughly $250,000 worth of information technology and computers were able to be saved.

Willards said the firefighters went into the fire for roughly 30 to 40 minutes to put tarp over the banks technology hub to prevent any of it from getting wet while they were fighting the fire.

You don’t think about it. You go to work , I go to work , you don’t think about what (firefighters)  do, but when that fire is shooting out up of that roof and you can feel the heat and you’re standing 100 feet away and they’re standing there right on it it’s just… they’re putting their lives up there too. It was really something. They did a great job,” Davis said.

According to the Maryland Fire State Fire Marshal the total loss to the structure and its contents were $750,000.
