UD announces tuition increase for 2016-17 academic year

One local university has announced that they’ll be increasing the cost of tuition, for the upcoming school year. The University of Delaware says that tuition and fees for the 2016-17 academic year will increase by $310 for Delawareans, and by $830 for nonresidents. This makes total tuition $12,830 for Delaware residents and $32,250 for nonresidents.

The school also announced that there will be no increases in mandatory fees, including the student health service fee, the student center fee and the student comprehensive fee. The cost to live on campus will be raised by about 2% for the coming term.

In total, the cost for undergrads to live on campus, along with their tuition and other fees will total just under $25,000 for Delawareans and just over $44,000 for out of state students. The University notes that although the campus housing and dining options vary for among students, the standard options have been used in these most-recent calculations.

Graduate tuition rates can also vary by program but overall, tuition and fees for the 2016-17 academic year will rise by 2.75%, bringing it to $1,720 per credit hour for graduate students, and sustaining fees each semester for master’s students up to $658 and doctoral students up to $993.

For the 2015-16 academic year, UD students received more than $93 million in grants and scholarships given by the University, which was a 20% increase from just two years ago. This money funded nearly 3,400 students to attend UD from the state of Delaware.

Provost Domenico Grasso spoke to the University’s dedication to funding education by saying, “We work hard to provide our students with a top flight education, and we are equally dedicated to controlling costs and providing financial and scholarship support to ensure the Delaware experience is within their reach.”

More details on approved undergraduate tuition rates, room and board and student fees can be found on the UD website.
