Trump could potentially redefine what it means to be a Republican

The 2016 GOP Convention has been unlike any other due to the Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Dr. Michael O’Loughlan, a political professor at Salisbury University says the Republican Party, while painted with a wide brush has always been known as conservative. Sometimes that is socially conservative like Senator Ted Cruz, or Economically Conservative like Speaker Paul Ryan.

However O’Loughlan says Donald Trump has transformed the party in a way that may make them step back after the 2016 presidential election and redefine what it means to be a Republican. O’Loughlan adds “The identity of the Republican party has really been challenged at this point in time, and hence that is an additional factor that has lead to a fractured party at this point in time”
