Screen violence can cause kids to become violent themselves

Dead bodies, blood, people fighting in the streets, all of these are examples of screen violence that your child could see on television or online.

According to a report released Monday by the American Academy of Pediatrics, without guidance or control, that violence they see on screen has the power to make them more aggressive. violent and fearful of the world we live in.

That’s why health officials recommend have a media diet, meaning you limit the quantity of media your child is consuming, but also monitor the quality.

Officials also recommend parents should co-view media and co-play games with their children that way they know what media their children are consuming.

As far what you should do when you child does see something violent and starts to ask questions, psychologist Dr. Kathy Seifert say parents should address it and not deflect.

“That’s the time to have a conversation about anything that they get afraid of, are confused about, or have questions about,” Seifert said.

Seifert added if you don’t address those things with your kids, your children will form their own perceptions and get answers from other places.
