Salisbury to have fastest internet in Maryland

By August of 2018 Salisbury, Md will be the city with the fastest internet in the entire state.

Next month construction will begin downtown to replace the aging pipes beneath Main Street and North division street. 

During that process though fiber optic cable will be installed, as well as hook ups for all the downtown businesses on those streets. 

The hookups will also be given to residential buildings on those streets allowing for residents to connect to the high speed internet as well.

Once the fiber goes online Salisbury will have the fastest internet among cities in Maryland, with the fiber cabling delivering 1 gigabyte per second.

According to Salisbury Mayor Jake Day, Maryland Broadband Cooperative has already strung the fiber cable across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and down Rt. 50. 

All that’s left is for Salisbury to connect.

Day said with the plan already in motion to install new pipes downtown, it was almost a no-brainer to take advantage of this opportunity as well.

“Here we had this really great opportunity to provide this great incentive for businesses to locate right here in the center of Salisbury and this was too good to past up,” Day said.

According to Day, in order for users to have full access to the high speeds they’ll have to purchase high tech routers and Ethernet cables.

However the city will offer a 10 percent tax credit over 10 years to fully reimburse anyone that chooses to do so.
