Salisbury Man given citation after police say he was driving under the influence in Whaleyville

A Salisbury man was given a citation after police say they smelled alcohol on his breath while he was driving in Whaleyville.

Troopers from the Berlin Barrack say they responded to a single car crash on Donaway Road in Whaleyville on Saturday evening just before 7PM. A 24-year-old driver of a 2003 Chevy Truck, Edwelweiss Plata Olguin of Salisbury, was reportedly heading southbound on route 610 when his vehicle went off the right side of the road, and came to a stop in a ditch.

When officers approached the scene, they say that they smelled alcohol on Olguin. Police also say that Olguin failed to undergo the standardized field sobriety tests when he was asked. Olguin was reportedly arrested for driving under the influence, and when he arrived at the station, police say Olguin turned down a breath test.

Olguin was reportedly given citations for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, and negligent driving.

Police say Olguin had no injuries from the collision.
