Police investigating two attempted abductions off of UD campus

Newark police say they are investigating a pair of attempted abductions near the University of Delaware campus.
Police say yesterday at 11:20 p.m., a 28-year-old UD student was unloading items from her car, into her apartment building, when a male suspect entered the apartment building and grabbed her from behind. The suspect then allegedly attempted to put a rag with chemicals around the victim’s mouth. After breaking free of the suspect, we’re told the suspect then fled the scene on foot.
In a second attempted abduction, reportedly taking place just after 3:30 a.m. Monday, a 61-year-old victim was exiting her vehicle on East Main Street when she was attacked from behind. Similar to the first incident, police say the victim fought off the suspect before the suspect fled on foot.
Police say both victims declined medical attention.
