Mt. Hermon Road bicycle crash under investigation

Maryland State Police are currently investigating a crash that happened along Mt. Hermon road in Wicomico County on Wednesday.

Troopers say the victim was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle, and reportedly suffered a traumatic head injury that would threaten his life.

47 ABC has learned from several sources that the victim is Jake Schertz, 18.

47 ABC spoke with State Police from the Salisbury Barrack who say Schertz is an organ donor, and at this point investigators are withholding details about the crash until his organs are harvested.

Troopers confirmed Schertz was riding along Mt. Hermon Road between Waste Gate Road and Sixty Foot Road.

Sources close to Schertz and his family say he thrived in wrestling while he was in high school and planned to attend the University of Maryland this year.
