How to keep your garden flourishing in the heat

In these extreme temperatures, it’s pretty easy for us to get some relief and cool off. But what about your plants outside? Jessica Flores, senior agent associate for University of Maryland Extension office says there are some tips on keeping those vegetable and fruit gardens flourishing.

Flores says you should always water your plants in the morning, preferably using a soaker hose, this way the roots can grab all the moisture before it gets really hot during the day. It’s also important to make sure that there are little to no weeds in your garden. This ensures that your plant is getting all the water rather than the weeds around it.

Flores tells 47 ABC, “One of the unique abilities of the vegetable garden is it can flourish in many different temperatures. On really hot days you can do an overhead water with your watering can or your overhead sprinkler.”

Flores says that you should water your garden at least three times a week for about an hour each time.
