Gov. Markell participates in ‘Governors Day’ at the DE State Fair

Thursday marked day 8 at the Delaware State Fair and it was also ‘Governors day’. Governor Jack Markell was on hand early Thursday morning touring around the ‘Future Farmers of America’ and ‘4-H’ building with students who are a part of both programs admiring their work.

The FFA program is for students from 6th grade all the way up to high school seniors who aspire to be farmers, teachers doctors and even business owners. While 4-H is a youth development organization which offers students the opportunity to learn by doing.

47 ABC caught up with Governor Markell and he says, “I love the state fair and there’s nothing better than ‘Governors Day’ at the fair. The amazing thing that I think people don’t understand, they think the fair is just about agriculture and ags a big piece of it but you see sewing projects you see photography you see arts and crafts you see baking and these kids are really pretty extraordinary.”

The Delaware state fair kept Governor Markell busy all day, he even participated in a watermelon eating contest and egg toss with Miss Delaware! The brave governor agreed to chow down on that melon and he actually did really well. Directly following that was the very delicate egg toss! He was paired up with Miss Delaware and the two made quite the team, they won first place!

Governor Markell also said although this is his last year in office, he says he will definitely be back to enjoy the Delaware State Fair.
