Free air conditioners available to Delaware residents through Summer Cooling Program

A local non-profit is giving away free air conditioners, to those in need.

The First State Community Action Agency is still providing air conditioners to eligible households in Delaware. Now through September, residents can qualify to receive an energy-efficient, window air conditioner through the Summer Cooling Assistance Program.

In order to qualify, applicants must be either 60 years of age or older, a person with a disability, or have children under the age of five years old. The household must also meet income eligibility requirements at or below 200% federal poverty guidelines and have not received AC from this program in the past ten years.

All applicants must provide the following documents:

  • Photo ID for anyone in the home 18 and over
  • Social Security cards for everyone over 6 months
  • Birth Certificates for anyone under 18
  • Proof of income for everyone in home
  • Current electric bill
  • Copy of Lease if applicant is a renter
  • Written permission from landlord if applicant is a renter

Officials say applications with missing documents will be considered incomplete until all documents are received. For more information you can contact Martina Duffy at 302-856-7761 ext.109
