Ellendale man faces two felonies after Thursday night arrest

Police say a 24-year-old Ellendale man faces a slew of charges, including two felonies, after fleeing the scene of a traffic stop.

On Thursday, just before midnight, we’re told Rehoboth Beach Police observed Michael L. Fluitt speeding in the area of Bayard Avenue and Rodney Street. He allegedly hit 58 MPH in a 25 MPH residential district. As officers pursued Fluitt, the 24-year-old allegedly turned onto Blackstone Avenue, which is a one-way street, before parking the car and fleeing on foot.

We’re told after speaking with a passenger and searching the vehicle, officers determined that a scale, paraphernalia, prescription pills, marijuana and mushrooms belonged to Fluitt. Police say Fluitt was taken into custody after he returned to the scene, claiming his car had been stolen from the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach.

Fluitt is reportedly being charged with two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of any prescription drug that is not a controlled substance without a prescription, resisting arrest, four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to have insurance identification in possession, failure to have registration card in possession, driving the wrong way on a one way road, turning without giving proper signal, and speeding in excess of 25 MPH in a residential district.

Police say he was committed to Sussex Correctional on $3,254 secured bond.
