DSP continuing investigation into death of Clayton man

63-year-old James Leager, of Clayton

Delaware State Police say they are continuing an investigation into the assault and death of a Clayton man that happened in April.

The investigation reportedly began after police say on April 27, 63-year-old James Leager of Clayton, was found suffering from head and torso injuries in his car on a farm on Blackbird-Greenspring Road in Smyrna. Police say Leager was treated by paramedics at the scene, but then he was taken to Kent General Hospital. He reportedly stayed at the hospital until his death on May 17 from blunt force trauma complications.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit reportedly took over the investigation in the middle of June and detectives say they want to speak to anyone who may have seen or talked to Leager before his death

Police say Leager had a bronze-colored 2011 Ford f-150 pickup truck registered in Delaware, that Leager lived in the Smyrna-Clayton area all of his life, and that he was well-known in his community.

If anyone has any information on this assault and death, they are asked to call Detective Daniel Grassi at 302-365-8441. People can also call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333, send an anonymous tip by text to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword “DSP”  or visit their website.

Police say no arrests have been made yet.
