Delaware Forest Service sends help to Colorado

Delaware Forest Service has sent 20 wild land firefighters to the Rocky Mountain area in Colorado to help fight a string of new forest fires in the area for two weeks.

The crew departed Blackbird State Forest Monday and will head to Denver, Co. where they will be sent to a fire to work on.

According to reports the Rocky Mountain area is facing 20 new fires,  two new large incidents and five blaze that are not yet contained.

Delaware Forest Service Assistant State Forester Kyle Hoyd said the firemen could face volatile fire behavior.

“What I mean by that is if you have a lower slope and a gust of wind comes up and really starts to get… if erratic winds come it can really carry that fire up slope at upwards of 60 to 70 miles per hour,” Hoyd said.

Right now is considered to be the middle of Wildfire Season, which traditionally spans from the start of June into the end of August.
