Del. Electric Co-Op brings ‘lineman rodeo’ to state fair

Lineman Rodeo with the Delaware Electric Co-Op

For the third year, Delaware Electric Co-Op brought their ‘lineman rodeo’ featuring a number of their journeyman to the state fair.

This year, they brought a new trailer as part of the demonstration.

The rodeo is meant to replicate what happens if telephone lines are snapped, whether it be from cars crashes into poles or inclement weather.

Shawn Rogers, a lineman journeyman with Delaware Electric Co-Op, tells 47ABC broken lines are still potentially dangerous. If anyone spots one, they should not touch it.

“We have people, even firefighters…all kinds of emergency workers..that can be around those wires every day. I’ve seen them step over it,” Rogers explains. “The line may not be totally dead yet, it might be alive 7200 volts thrown on the ground.”

The rodeo has more demonstrations at the fair on Thursday and Saturday. Overall, the company serves more than 90,000 customers in Kent and Sussex counties.
