Could Sanders’ endorsement impact voter turnout?

The world of politics took a big turn this week, with Bernie Sanders announcing his official endorsement of Hillary Clinton for president.
“I have come here to make it as clear as possible as to why I am endorsing Hillary Clinton and why she must become our next president,” Sanders said at a joint rally.
Tuesday’s announcement is a critical step in trying to shift Sanders’ supporters over to Clinton’s side; however, one local political science professor tells 47abc there’s no guarantee.
Dr. Michael O’Loughlin of Salisbury University says voter turnout will depend on Sanders’ will to campaign vigorously for Clinton. He says voter turnout among the younger cohort in general is likely to be lower than the last election.
“Obama, I think was able to…was a better candidate in terms of mobilizing those folks, Clinton for a variety of reasons, is less likely to do that,” he explains.
Presumptive republican nominee Donald Trump took to Twitter following the announcement Tuesday, tweeting “I am somewhat surprised that Bernie Sanders was not true to himself and his supporters. They are not happy that he is selling out!”
The DNC is set for July 25 through 28 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Republicans are expected to meet July 18 through 21 in Cleveland, Ohio.
