CDC provides tips on what bug spray you should use

In terms of keeping insects away bug spray is effective, or at least it can be depending on what kind.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends using products containing DEET, picarardin, IR-3535 or those with oil of lemon eucalyptus because they offer longer lasting protection.

Officials say you should re-apply bug spray as soon as you notice yourself getting bit again.

The CDC also offers health warnings.

They say bug spray should never be applied to open wounds or irritated skin.

You also don’t need to apply a lot, use just enough to cover exposed skin using extra does not give you longer lasting protection.

Once you return indoors officials say to wash the treated skin with soap or water especially if you have repeatedly used bug spray throughout the day.
