Apparent murder-suicide reported in Accomack County on Saturday

Police in Accomack County, say they responded to reports of two people dead, with a baby inside a vehicle on the side of a road, Saturday morning.

According to Accomack County Sheriff, Todd Goodwin, around 8:40 AM, the Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police received a report of two individuals who were believed to be deceased, and an infant child inside of a car, on Pierce Taylor Road, near Mappsville.

Deputies, troopers, and EMS personnel reportedly arrived at the scene, and then confirmed that the two adults were dead from apparent gunshot wounds, but the child was in good health.

Officials say they have identified the deceased individuals to be Elizabeth Madison Ann Jensen, 20, of Sanford, and Jonan Fabricio Gonzales-Funes, 27, of Bloxom. The infant is reported to be the child of these two people, and officials say that custody of the baby has been turned over to other family members.

Gonzales-Funes is said to have been employed as a correctional officer with the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office since September 2015. At this time, police are saying that the incident appears to the result of a murder-suicide, and that Gonzales-Funes is the suspect.

The investigation is still ongoing though, as officials are waiting for laboratory and autopsy results.
