Annual Ocean Games set for July 16, featuring new additions to benefit Worcester Youth

The Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services Inc. is partnering with with Ocean Games to help increase community awareness about mental healthcare and brain trauma. Ocean Games will host heir annual multi-sport athletic event on Saturday, July 16.
The Ocean Games is an annual event held along the beautiful shoreline of Ocean City, put on in cooperation with the Town of Ocean City, the Ocean City Beach Patrol, and the United States Coast Guard, that features seven competitions. “Swim Ocean City”, a WOWSA-sanctioned ocean race, features 1, 3 and 9-mile ocean swims, the “East Coast SUP CUP”, a unique ocean paddleboard event, offers 4 and 2-mile elite and open paddle board races as well as an up and back sprint race, and “Beach Flight Ultimate”, a beach ultimate frisbee competition.
This event is put on to increase awareness about brain injuries and recovery, as well as promote the positive effects that physical activity has on the brain and the body.The event raises funds for the Johns Hopkins Brain and Stroke Rehabilitation Program which in turn helps local charities and families.
The target charity for this year is WYFCS. WYFCS will host the first ever “PlayZone”, a designated family-oriented play area at Caroline Street, as a part of the beachfront activities. A small entry fee will be charged for the “PlayZone”, but all proceeds will be donated to Ocean Games and WYFCS. “PlayZone” opens at 10 AM, and will feature that will include tug-of-war, sack races, water races, 3-legged races, can jam, corn hole and other fun activities.
Another new event is the Ocean Games Post-Race Party at Seacrets’ Morley Hall from 5 PM- 7 PM. A $10 entry fee will be required at the party that will benefit both organizations as well as getting you happy hour drink prices, 5/50 raffle, live music, royal Jelly and Bargain scotch, and free admission to the rest of Seacrets following the party. This party will be open to the public.
Executive Director of WYFCS, Steve Taylor, was quoted saying, “We hope the community and visitors alike will take advantage of this fun-filled event to bring attention to the importance of exercise for mental health and trauma recovery.”
Registration is required for all races and for Ultimate Frisbee but not for PlayZone or the Seacrets Post-Race Party.
