$80K to replace airport weather observation system

The Cambridge-Dorchester Airport is one step closer to replacing their weather observation system.
Airport manager Meighan Chisholm says the current system is about 16 years old and replacing it would cost about 80,000 dollars.
Chisholm says the airport has requested a grant from the Maryland Aviation Administration. The grant would pay for about 75 percent of the total installation cost, with the remainder coming from Dorchester County.
The council is expected to discuss the grant at the meeting on Tuesday night.
Chisholm tells 47ABC, the current system is “obsolete” which is why the money is so crucial.
“We have a recording on the AWOS system that tells pilots about the construction so they can expect some barriers and it gives them the taxi instructions when they come in. Very convenient and a strong safety factor,” he says.
If funding is approved, installation for the new system will begin sometime in September.
