Wor-Wic tuition scholarship plans on hold

The plan was to establish a tuition scholarship for Wicomico County students attending Wor-Wic Community College, but Tuesday night, Wicomico County Council voted against the plan in its current form, citing the need for more specifics.
In February, County Executive Bob Culver proposed a $1.46 million plan.
First year funding called for $252,000. The plan would have eventually cost the county $665,000 a year.
Under the proposal, eligible students would have had to live in Wicomico County for at least two years, have graduated from Wicomico High School, and have already applied for all other available financial aid first.
Council President John Cannon tells 47 ABC that there were concerns that requirements for household income might have been too high. He also said council wanted more documentation about how the grants would be issued.
Culver tells 47 ABC that he and Wor-Wic President Ray Hoy, who helped develop the plan, sent a letter Wednesday the council, asking them to outline the “specifics” they say they want to see in the plan.
Cannon says he has not yet received such a letter.
A vote on the county budget is set for Tuesday, June 7th.
