Wor-Wic economic impact scholarship resolution drafted for vote

The Wor-Wic economic impact scholarship set to be available for students graduating high school this year, hit a hiccup based on the details of the qualifications of students applying.
A meeting was held on Wednesday, which discussed specifics of the scholarship, the main topic being a maximum household income for students who apply.
Both sides were able to settle on numbers, although arbitrarily, to put a resolution together to be voted on, which will be held next week. Dr. Ray Hoy, president of Wor-Wic Community College, says he’s feeling positive because just 2 weeks ago when the budget was adopted, they didn’t have the program. Hoy adds “Now I know that at the next meeting Tuesday, they’re going to make a decision.”
Dr. Hoy says the cost of the scholarship which can reach over $500,000 annually, can pay off, given that 90% of the students at Wor-Wic enter the workforce locally after they graduate.
The scholarship, which gives financial support to students graduating from Wicomico County high schools comes with a few caveats. Students must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, and the student must have been a resident of the county for the past two years. First, any financial aid available must be applied for, then the County money would supplement the aid already in place.
