Vernon Powell shoe drive looks to help the shoeless in Salisbury

All June long, you can do your part to help provide some footwear to those in need through the Vernon Powell Shoes shoe drive.
VP Shoes president, Joe Wright, tells us the company has been holding the drive for about 10 years now. Throughout the month of June you can stop by VP Salisbury, behind the mall, and drop off a pair of gently worn or used shoes.
In return, you’ll receive a coupon for 10% off of a purchase. You’ll also be helping out some of the many who are in need of a pair of shoes.
“The goal is to try and make sure that every pair of shoes reaches it’s 100% useful life so shoes aren’t wasted. There’s a lot of people that need shoes out there. I think there’s 300-million children in the world that don’t have a pair of shoes. I hear that there’s 300-million pairs of shoes that go in the landfill every year.”
Wright says the collected shoes will be donated to Urban Ministries and the Salvation Army of Salisbury.
