UPDATE: One killed in crash in Smyrna

Delaware State Police say they are investigating a fatal two vehicle crash, that happened early Tuesday morning, in Smyrna.
Officials say, just after 11:30AM, a 2006 Toyota Highlander was driving on Whealey’s Pond Road, when the SUV’s driver, 75-year-old Jose Tuma-Aid, of Hartly fell asleep, and the front end of his car hit the back end of a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, which 84-year-old Doris Johnson, of Hartley, was driving.
After the impact Johnson’s car hit a small ditch, re-entered the roadway, and finally stopped, according to Police. The Toyota also apparently traveled in a westbound direction for a short distance, before stopping in a small ditch on the side of the road as well.
Johnson, who was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was treated at the scene by Kent County Paramedics, and then taken to Kent General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. According to the police report, Tuma-Aid apparently received minor injuries, and was taken to KGH for treatment.
Wheatley’s Pond Road between Bryn Zion Road and Mt. Friendship Road was closed while the crash was being investigated, and deemed cleared after two hours.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is reportedly continuing their investigation into this incident. Alcohol is apparently not considered to be a factor in the crash.
