UPDATE: One dead after early morning crash in Millsboro

Troopers say they are investigating a fatal crash in Millsboro, that claimed the life of one on Thursday.

According to Delaware State Police, the crash happened around 4:40 AM, on Route 24 near Rock Pile Way. Investigators say 20-year-old Corey Burton, of Millsboro, was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang westbound on John J. Williams Highway – Route 24, when at the same time, 35-year-old Justin Baldwin, of Salisbury, Maryland, was driving a 2013 Isuzu six wheel box truck on Route 24, in the opposite direction.

Police say for for unknown reasons, Burton’s Mustang crossed the center line, directly in front of the box truck. According to the report, Baldwin swerved right in an attempt to avoid the Mustang, but the two vehicles collided, nearly head-on in the eastbound lane.

After the crash, Investigators say the Mustang rotated until coming to a stop on the westbound shoulder, while the box truck continued in an easterly direction, coming to a stop partially in the grass off the eastbound shoulder.

Troopers say Burton was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and was partially ejected from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Baldwin was reportedly wearing a seat belt, and was uninjured in the crash.

The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit says they are continuing their investigation into this incident, and that alcohol and drugs may have been a contributing factor on behalf of Burton.

Route 24 was reportedly closed between Maryland Camp Road and William Street Road for around four hours, while the crash was investigated and cleared.
