UPDATE: Memorial Day Weekend OC assault ruled homicide

Investigators in Ocean City say they are continuing to look into an assault that happened on Sunday, and resulted in the death of a Maryland man.

Ocean City Police say they are still investigating an assault that happened around 2:30 AM on May 29, in the area of 136th Street and Coastal Highway. Thirty one-year-old Ryan Shupert, of Lutherville Timonium, was rushed to Peninsula Regional Medical Center, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with life-threatening injuries. He apparently succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, and died. Shupert’s body was reportedly then taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland, who has ruled the death a homicide.

Detectives with the Ocean City Police Department Criminal Investigation Division Major Crimes say they believe that Shupert, and two of his friends were involved in an argument with four men on a municipal bus. Once they got off the bus Ocean City officials say, it turned physical at 136th Street and Coastal Highway. Detectives say they are currently looking for those four suspects, and asking anyone with information to come forward. Police say they believe that the suspects are from the Baltimore area.

Police describe suspect one as a white male with a darker complexion in his 20s, who stands about 6′ to 6’1″, weighing approximately 200 pounds with dark, curly hair parted to the side, and gel in his hair. He was wearing glasses before the altercation occurred, and a red shirt. Investigators say the second suspect is a white male with a lighter complexion in his 20s, with short reddish brown hair with extensive tattoos on both his arms and neck, last seen wearing a white t-shirt at the time of the incident. Police say the third, and fourth suspects, are both men in their 20s.

“We are confident that someone has valuable information about this incident and knows the suspects that were involved,” commented Chief Ross Buzzuro. “We urge anyone that may have information to contact us, particularly those that may have been on a municipal bus between the hours of 1:30 AM and 2:30 AM in the areas of 70th to 130th Streets on Sunday, May 29.”

Police say that Detectives are actively reviewing surveillance video, witness statements, and forensic evidence. Each lead is reportedly being investigated extensively. Those who may have information about this incident are asked to contact 410-723-6602, or visit oceancitymd.gov/police to submit a tip. Citizens may remain anonymous.
