UD community comes together to mourn and support after Orlando shooting

Over 100 candle-bearing members and supporters of the LGBT community came together Tuesday night at the center of the University of Delaware Campus.

Attendees shared personal stories, mourned the loss of the 49 killed in the Orlando nightclub massacre and offered up words of encouragement for those still mentally recovering from Sunday’s shooting.

Event organizer, Karla Bell, told 47 ABC the event was a huge success because of the number attendees, given school isn’t even in session.

“We were hoping for a pretty good turnout and I think through social media, some of the community members, the University of Delaware system, the city of Newark and also some of our statewide systems, (the community) really showed some great support.”

The event was attended by students, professors and area community members.
