Torch Run raises money for Spec. Olympics Md.

If you were driving in Ocean City or Berlin Monday morning, and saw a group of people running in grey T-shirts, know that it was for a good cause benefiting the Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games.
About 100 law enforcement officers and Special Olympic athletes made the trek from 27th street and the boardwalk in Ocean City up to North Division Street where they caught a bus to Berlin.
From there, the torch run took the runners from Worcester Prep through downtown Berlin where they chowed down on some breakfast. Last year the law enforcement torch run alone raised over $2.5-million dollars for Special Olympics Maryland.
“Once you have the opportunity to interact with the Special Olympics athletes and see their true appreciation for what it is that we do to raise funds for them, their appreciate for law enforcement, their zest for life in general, it’s addictive and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” Said OCPD Sgt. Dennis Eade.
Funds are raised through the sale of the grey T-shirts. The 46th annual special Olympics Maryland Summer Games kick off on Friday at Towson University.
