afternoon.. yeah julian, day one yesterday was jam packed with action, day two nothing less, we had two local teams going for bracket championships this afternoon. beginning with the 16 and under bracket, when glen riddle out of salisbury was taking on hoops canada elite out of toronto. glen riddle a team compiled of a lot of wi-hi guys, there’s one putting in work on the boards my man tykeim davis, getting the putback to go. then it would be the soon to be freshman, jaden baker with the up and under, baker finished with a team-high 17. canada elite, they’ve got some talent too, kahleel ellis taking his defender to the cup, misses the layup but gets the putback to go. ellis would get a an offensive rebound with less than 20 seconds to go, down one, and knock down both free throws. canada goes up one now, last chance for glen riddle, lequan pettit driving the lane, throws one up, maybe looking for a foul, doesn’t get the whistle, canada elite crosses the border with a championship in hand they win 66-65. maryland supreme in the 17 and under bracket also taking on canada elite, omar shiddo, hitting one from vancouver, that’s worth three in both countries. but supreme began to pull away early, led by this guy, gary briddell with the three. then he’s in the lane causing havoc, too strong he finished with 22 points. he also can play a little d, gets the steal and throws it up to jaquan johnson. then they would feed the big man, keve aluma he had 17 as supreme, reigns supreme they win 77-57, they are your champs in the 17 u division. “we definitely showed toughness because we had 5 or 6 players each game so we all had to fight for the wins, so we wanted it.” about 110 miles northwest of here, the orioles were in the final game of their homestand, with the brooms on deck. a win today would complete a four game sweep of division rival tampa bay. and the o’s didn’t waste any time in this game, bottom of the first chris davis comes to the dish with the bases juiced, and that will clear em. oppo field. 7 rows up, grand slam orioles lead 4-0. tampa would cut it to one until mark trumbo comes up to the plate in the fifth with a man on, and he too, is sending crowd shots. baltimore wins 12-5, they have now won 5 in a row. how would the nats fare in milwaukee, wrapping up a series with the brew crew. bottom of the ninth, washington with a two run lead, make that a one-run lead. michael mcdonald takes shawn kelly deep for a solo home-run. next batter, jonathan villar takes it almost to the same spot, this one would stay in the park, but jayson werth loses it in the sun, villar ends up at third. so the tying run just 90 feet away, and kelly gets scooter gennett to pop up, this time werth does have it, makes the catch, nats win 3-2 to snap a 7 game losing streak. and for my play of the night i am giving props to the ladies of the east coast xplosion softball team out of laurel, delaware. these 10 ladies won a best of three series with the delaware diamonds black to win the delaware state championship this afternoon down in roxanna. so congrats to the newly crowned champions in the first state. that’s it for sports. we’ll wrap things up after the break! keep it right here — you’re watching 47 abc! catch more of the action on
