Sen. Coons speaks on Iran Deal

Senator Chris Coons was in Washington DC Thursday addressing the foreign relations council on the Iran nuclear deal.

Last year world powers reached an agreement to restrain Iran’s nuclear program and Senator Coons is making it clear that the U.S. and it’s allies need to hold Iran accountable for that.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action was created to prevent Iran from developing or obtaining any nuclear weapons. Iran has since shipped 12 tons of enriched uranium out of the country. Since the implementation of that goal, Senator Coons says they’ve seen progress  but he still expects Iran to test their boundaries in an effort to see how the U.S. and it’s allies will respond.

Moving forward, Coons says we need to remain focused on aggressive enforcement and that Congressional oversight will be critical.
